The effort made to keep this road in good condition is worthy, but this talk of closing the road is a bit ridiculous. It's a steep gravel and dirt road next to a creek in rural area. Periodic maintenance is great, but in the end the road is what it is - a shitty back road to nowhere. Expecting it to be well manicured 365 days a year seems a bit silly.

As in all things with climbing, assess the risks yourself and enter at your own risk...

This has nothing to do with risk assessment. It has to do with reducing costs. I think it a reasonable to say that this road should remain open and serviceable for vehicles, especially emergency ones. But it seems silly to spend significant extra cost to fix the road when it is just a 5 minute hike. A reasonable compromise would be to close it during the rainy season when most damage is done.

i think that a seasonal approach will prove ineffective. many people don't know how to drive or intentionally drive like maniacs because it's an unique experience and no cops.

i also think that removing rocks from the road may end up making matters worse and improving drainage (big hills, not the creekside)
might be better.

Would it be possible to blacktop the hill or the certain bad spots? Probably expensive but would end up saving money over time.

You dont need to actually lock the gate just put one up that says no one past this point unless authorized/emergency. Leave it unlocked and if you need to use the road open it. No one drives up to Chica Bonita, Drive-By, or Bob Marley and all there is is a sign.

Isn't this a county road. I am not positive, but good luck closing it.

Also, what some of you are saying is that the best way to make sure people can use the road, is to close the road.

My guess is that they also voted for Obama.

We are looking at asphalt grindings which pack like blacktop.

It's county rd until you break right and go uphill (towards oil tanks) to sore heel.
After that its ours and the oil company has right of way. The only place we could "close" would be from the top of sore heel hill (say that three times fast) to the parking area.

I like all the ideas please keep up the conversation knowing what others think helps us come up with solutions with your wishes in mind....... After all you all own it.

When was the last time the county did any sort of maintenance on the road?

They have been doing very regular work on the county portion (Bald Rock Fork). This is about the privately owned road that branches off.

You have to understand there are virtually no taxpayers that live back that road therefore the county has a very low priority when it comes to roadwork down Bald rock and fixer rd. that being said its been about six months. I put a call in to the county rd Forman but have not be able to follow up. We have a good relationship but i try not to be too pushy Ill try and get on that this week but I'm kinda behind at work and I employ rock climbers, so my schedule is effed right now.
