Interesting to look at the dates on these. I didn't notice that on my first perusal.

Wow, I feel betrayed. I had a feeling about this deal from almost the beginning. Not much about it made much sense. I only drank half cup of the kool-aid before I spat. Now at least some of the math is working out, but can you really make that much ka-ching guiding Roadside? Really? So this story still is not quite adding up.
- I am tripping on the original warning at the Graining Fork website, it went something like, "and don't even think about guiding here!"

- Another aspect of all this of course is that the Red wins at the drama contest. There is no other climbing venue with the drama that we command at the Red. I can't wait to see how this story plays in the climbing mags. I am also wondering what the hell is next. Does this saga get weirder?

I've had a job since I was 15. No trust fund here. Guiding is my seasonal/part-time, second job.

You guys are going nuts based on suspicion. It's kinda funny.
Roadside will be open soon enough, it's not a permanent closure...

Great news, glad to hear they are staying true to their stated ideals, which are super admirable. The silence over the past 10 months regarding the plans for the preserve has been somewhat deafening, despite numerous access groups and many individuals reaching out to help.

While I have climbed almost everything there within my ability many times over (except for stuff in the Science Friction/Hemisfear zone!), Roadside was one of the first crags I went to in the Red back in the mid-90s and I hope visitors to the RRG will always have the opportunity to enjoy this beautiful place the way I have over the years.

Oh Shit! People profiting from property they purchased!? How in the world could we ever let this shit go on?! Its just not fair. When America comes down to letting people possess private property, barring it to trespassers, profiting from their investment, and sharing it only with close friends that they trust, all hope is essentially lost. Hell, we all might as well vote for Rick Santorum.

While I'm at it... why in the hell does Miguel get to take off three months out of the year and I don't. That's not fair either. I say either they fix me a pizza in January when my fingers are too cold to work the stove, or someone pay for me to not work a quarter of the year.

I'm just kidding I love that damned pizza. Now I'm going to go climb TROCS this weekend because I HAVE RIGHTS!

No problem with private land to make bank. However, the smoke and mirrors about intention and altruism when the land was purchased and the guilt trip on the climbing community for mistreatment were not necessary .
