This is a copy of USFS Ranger Don Fig's stats on the 1700+ rescues he did in the Gorge during his tenure. (1962 to 2005) 93 deaths to date, mostly due to falling over cliffs.

Rick, did Don (or do you) have the figures on the home of visitors in total? My guess is that the numbers would align.

The other thing to consider is how many
unique visitors are there from Ohio, N KY, etc...
Let's say Bob lives in Lexington. Actually, for the sake of this conversation let's call him Billy Bob. Billy Bob goes to the Gorge every weekend from April to October. For every trip he makes there is a green buckeye on their way down as well. The Ohitian (he he) has never been to the Gorge and so is more likely to get lost, disoriented, and fall off a cliff. Billy Bob knows the woods like the back of his hand because he's been here the previous 20 weekends in a row.
In other news, I'm watching America's Got Talent... The Hoff is trashed, I think.

I'm told that the ratio of accidents to the number of visitors from any state is about the same. Ohio just has significantly more visitors than any other state.
Probably kicking a hornet's nest, but consider
these numbers;
1960 to 2005
SAR incidents involving:
Children: 90
Adult females: 255
Adult males: 1270
And, no I don't know the ratio of male to female visitors. But, there seems to be a case for mass testosterone poisoning. ("Hey, y'all... hold m' beer 'n watch this!")
