Well done, KD - I wrote last night after I posted that, too; we'll see if anyone writes back.

i got the feeling amy was from the access fund... i thought she told me she was from boulder (maybe she just meant originally)
or maybe i am confusing people...

either way, i appreciate everyone's concerns, but i just hope this does not cause a bunch of drama... i think the outdoor group is coming to the red/hp 40 over spring break (and staying at torrent), so i don't wanna be smack-talking....

Julie, either way for anyone a box with candy would be an insult, they need to know at least that. They had so many vendors on the floor and I am sure if they have asked around they would have gotten something from them and even if the prize is not climbing related it would have been better than two bags of candy.

Amy Anslinger's boss is Eric Corbett who's title is Director, Student Union & Campus Recreation IM Sports/Sport Clubs. His email address is eric.corbitt@wright.edu

The Amy that was there from the Access Fund was Amy Ansari, their Grassroots Coordinator. A different person from the Amy on the WSU staff.

I'm friends with many of the guys at WSU's gym; for what it's worth, they're good people. I have faith that all this was just a mistake or a misunderstanding on someone's part and not some purposeful act meant to screw someone over.

Wanting to avoid the drama is very admirable, but I think you still have every right to be upset. I was at that comp and you were crushing those problems. You earned your win and you deserve more than a few packs of candy. Contact Amy Anslinger at the WSU Outdoor Resource Center and the folks at Five Rivers MetroParks (sorry don't know who specifically) and politely voice your disappointment/displeasure. The Adventure Summit is a big event for them and they want it to succeed. This is not the kind of word-of-mouth they want spread about the Boulder Comp, one of the largest draws of the event.

I hope everything works out in the end and I'm sorry this has happened. Take care.

From Amy Anslinger:

"Thank you. I appreciate you bringing this misunderstanding to my attention. I can assure you that this was not our intention and we will remedy the situation and due right by Julie. I was not aware that Julie had been given untrue information about the mystery prizes..the other contained a pair of climbing shoes. If Julie had not received bad information about the value of the boxes then I would have stood by her decision to gamble and choose the box over the crash pad. Julie won the coin toss and therefore was the first competitor to choose a prize..she could have picked up a crash pad, but she decided to gamble.

Because Julie received false information from a member of my student staff, I will contact Julie to apologize and remedy the situation."

See, there are happy endings in the real world.

yes, for everyone, she did both call and email. i really appreciated it.
i also want to convey that everyone i met at the comp was super nice, friendly, etc. (even though i called the one guy a hippie).
i don't think it was a malicious act or anything; maybe this person just thought i would think it was funnier than i did. or, maybe he really wasn't thinking about it-after all, comps are just for fun, right? i would have felt fine if all prizes were "gag" prizes. i guess i just thought it was odd to have one bad prize, regardless of who ended up with it.
either way, my intention was never to get a crash pad out of it or anything (or any other compensation, for that matter). i guess i was just responding to andrew to relay what happened-and at that time, i was still upset about it (at least a bit). i never thought it would turn into such a scandal! i figured i would just rant, bitch, etc. like i normally do on here, and that would be that. apparently, i underestimate you guys ;)
thanks again for everyone's concern. i definitely don't want to come across as the "poor little climber" here. i'm a big girl and will be just fine with no prize from a comp.... :D

I don't want the event to get a bad name, becuase it truly was a great event. I really was just poking fun of Julie and letting everyone know how badass she is. I do believe that she was mislead and completely got shafted with prizes. At the same time I do hope that they see the error in their ways and make adjustments to the way they do prizes in the future. It was interesting to learn that they did similar things last year. Not everyone has been doing comps for 5, 10, or even 15 years. They are still in the learning the process.

I really encourage people to attend this event next year, I think it is really important for the midwest outdoor community. They offer many events, demonstrations, vendors, and competitions over a weekend.
