Nicholas A. Jackson Case in point, the teacher in the article semi lived out his faith. Maybe didn't even talk about Jesus, helped out with Fellowship of Christian Athletes, had a Bible on his desk, and he was singled out and fired in Mount Vernon Ohio of all places.

Sue Breeden I have no problem at all with it John. Actually, I hope that most of my son's teachers are Christians or at least practice a religion that preaches love and compassion. More than that though, I hope they are wonderful communicators who can help my child understand reading, math, social studies, science(including evolution), music and I hope they can demonstrate patience.

Sue Breeden I will say, I just had surgery, one of the things I liked best about my doc was that he said it was not his hand in the operating room but The Lord's. I loved that he shared that with me. I hope the Lord's hand guide's all of our teachers as well, both public and religious based education.

Nicholas A. Jackson Sue I do use words with the gospel at work, and talk about the Lord. Not with every patient of course. I have had prayers with families and patients.. if I was a teacher and tried this I would be fired immediately. Thankfully the remnants of our catholic hospital encourage us to minister to the body, soul and spirit of the person. Someday they may not.

We homeschool our son and I work part time in a local elementary school managing an afterschool program. I can assure you, I have much opportunity to show love, care and compassion to children who have fatherless homes, alcoholic parents, ...fathers addicted to drugs, parents off to war, children at the poverty level, some with disabilities. I provide a place for them to be safe, I am someone who takes an avid interest in them and I have wiped tears and laughed with them. No, I cannot share my faith verbally, but I am showing compassion to the weary, just like Jesus asked us to do (read Matthew 25).See More

God says that what is not "of faith" is sin. Does 15,000 hours (K-12) of Godless/no Christ/no Bible "education" glorify God? Is it "of faith?" No, of course not.....

It may not be the direct issue, but there was a call for teachers of faith leave schools earlier in this thread. I am not a fan of gov't schools either, obviously, I homeschool, but it wasn't because of my faith that we opted to homeschool......we had other reasons. But if teachers of faith left, then there may not be any chance for some kids or some other teachers to maybe see examples of the faith, granted in a non-verbal manner. I also read in the scriptures that we are called to be "Salt and Light".See More
