wait a minute..if a democrat professes religious affiliation, he is a liar anyway, according to Saxman et al....because we know they don't really mean it, and just say it to get elected....so nevermind, there is no connection.

It may all boil down to the above. We need a good shepherd because all the rest are bad shepherds. The other option of course is to fight against herd mentality--any form of herd mentality that you find naive: Christianity, Buddhists, Islam, Mormonism, and yes, the Baptists.
