Yes, but that is a fairly recent thing. What about before that?

That doesn't jive with all the publically available info - the cause of Colony Collapse Disorder (a scientific term - what are the "politics" behind that?) has not been identified. Possible culprits range from various mites to malnutrition to an Israeli virus to "this has always been happening, but we never really paid attention."

But I did find a potential great route name if anyone displaces the hive. It's the name of a mite that kills honeybees: Varroa destructor
