I'll agree with the old/new maccain statement tomdarch made. However, I'm hoping that the 'new' mccain is just a front to try to win some conservative votes...and I think when he's elected he'll revert back to respectable moderate mccain.

The other thing I like about mccain, is that he's super old. So old that I'm guessing he can't be bought. What good will a few million dollars do him when he's already got 1 foot in the grave?

McCain is indeed trying to pander to his conservative base that is unhappy/disappointed with him as their horse. He will tell them what they want to hear (I am the next Ronald Reagan, etc...) to get the nomination. But he will have to turn around and pander to the center left (which he would probably do more genuinely) to peel off the moderates of both parties to beat OBama/ Clinton. In doing so he will complete his alienation of the right and they will stay home. I don't think he can win.

I agree with lurkist...mccain is best as a center moderate, and this kissing ass of the far right just doesn't play..it sort of reminds me of the "faith" forum the lefties held at the beginning of the election season....just stand up and say you think the god stuff is a bunch of crap, instead of calling it a "personal" issue....

this thing is obama's to lose....now, if he would only take down the che guevara flag from his houston head quarters....

I truly detest all that is/was clinton and long for that trainwreck to be retaken by the steady hand of time like nature reclaims the abandoned mines near the New, but what does obama stand for? change? like heres a $5 bill and I get some change? I like his message but I don't know what it is... I feel he can hopefully unite us in a common cause and pray its not our demise that we unite in..

Obama has captured the imagination of the libs and anyone disenchanted with Bush. I am afraid that he will be a one term Pres. He will have to pull off some miraculous plays to avoid being derided as a flash in the pan. He will get very little lee way or room for error as Pres. Call it the Tubby phenomena.

the pendelum has swung.....this is merely a rebalancing of time.... crank, Bush stole from our pocketbooks....there is no change left.

lurk has it right..people are so pissed off at Bush that Obama seems like the freshest air in a stale room. and Clinton is just like Bush...a career deal maker...

Obama seems like a very nice man, the kind of guy you'd like to have as your new next door neighbor. I agree with piggie that he's like a breath of fresh air. However, I'm afraid that's all he is. If he's elected, I suspect he'll go down in history as the most underqualified president ever.

In the future, when historians look back, and try to understand how he won, they'll decide that to the electorate, Obama was the political equivilant of the Hail Mary pass.

I agree, L Day. It's ironic that in this election cycle on one hand there is the most invigorating slate of candidates (1st Black, 1st woman, etc) but it seems under scrutiny no real good choice.
It makes me want to drive a steak knife in to my left eye, but for the good of the country I am thinking McCain might be the right guy. (but like I already said, I don't think he can win.)
Who ever is up to bat, he/she has got to get it right.
