Thats always been the problem, now I have to find a sitter if I want to climb at muir and that kinda stinks, but alas I was part of the group that skewed up so we all suffer. (we as in dog owners )TankAzz wrote:i'm kinda psyched about the ban. no more malachi at the crag, which is sad, but it's worth it not to have certain dogs at climbing areas. if you don't train your dog properly, he/she shouldn't be at the crag.
How you compare may not be as important as to whom you are compared

a couple of years ago while guiding at Torrent Falls I witnessed a unleashed dog attack the Meyer's family pet "Philly" which ultimatly led to hundreds in vet bills and a very sick dog. They begged for respect (as have the Webers) in regaurds for their wishes but the few who would not listen ruined it for everyone else. They were justified then just as the Webers are justified now.

if a dog is even somewhat well-behaved, i'd think it would be possible to pawn it off on someone else for the day, particularly for an small incentive (think free beer). you'd have to find someone you trusted not to get the dog run over by a car or something though.
Courtesy of Andrew: "I don't think you will damage your escort unless she trips because she is so strung out on blow. Most people just take them to the rest area."

I was not going to comment, but since My name was brought up I could not resist.
I did not close Torrent due to money from climbers. Let's get that straight. I did not close climbing due to dogs alone. It was closed due to lack of respect for a few common sense rules. It was unfortunate that we even had to post rules since they were common sense. I kept Torrent open even after trying a leash rule, then dog ban. Even with the Dog Ban, climber still brought their dogs on the property and them them run loose. The did not clean up after their droppings either. Also we had a no pet policey ever since buying Torrent.
When I paid for a porta-john to be put out front and asked for help in paying for it, well that did not work. No Big Deal. But when you put a porta-john out front and you go walking on the property with paying cabin guests and you walk up on climbers still pissing and shitting on your property, enough is enough. It was lack of respect that closed Torrent. Nothing else.
But people will think and believe whatever they want to believe. Until they own the property and have to live it every day they will never know.
If it was a financial situation that people continue to think the rational was behind closing Torrent, I would have closed it 10 years ago. People forget how supportive of the climbing community we have been.
May everyone have a Happy 2008.
