Wes,
Just wondering why you preferred the Gri-Gri lower method over the rap when you are bolting or shooting. I guess that it would keep the rope out of the way when you are shooting??? What else?

Truthfully, it is mostly because that is the way I learned first. Though when bolting, if you do the lowering way, you end up with a TR set up, which can be useful. I don't use it much to shoot, since it is hard to go up with it, and usually I just have a fixed line (only had a 100 ft static). But, thinking about it more, I might try the knot thing some to see if it works better now that I have a 60 M static.
Always good to think about doing things differently!

It always seems easier to just fix a line at the top versus using the top-rope self belay style especially if its steep. I guess its a good point to use the TR self belay if you want a TR set up when done or to be put on belay at some point. The only other reason I would not fix a line is if i didnt want to go back to the top when done, but the knot/biner block seems to solve that.

Catch a few friends. I weigh 170 I have caught dudes over 200 on an ATC. You guys will never con-vert me to the dark side. Oh, yeah, you can go hands free on an ATC but I will that leave for you to figure out. It is diffiently not for beginers or the average climber.

only the best climbers will ever master the hands free atc belay the others will no longer be able to find partners will to risk death while their belayer practices the elusive technique.
