I hope that Cliff is alright. I will keep him in my thoughts.

Now, the next time someone gets mad because I won't let them belay me....grr.

JR's got a good point. We should all watch out for each other at the crag. No one should get injured on ANYONE's watch. We're too smart to let others do stupid stuff, when we know the right way to do things. The more experienced people should watch out for the lessers...

OK let me get this straight

One accident Friday at Sky Bridge, a climber decked from JITP.
Another accident Sunday, rappeller gear failure of some sort.

Anyone know any more details (than what was posted on those silly TV station websites) on the accident that happened Sunday? Gear broke? Any and all accident details are appreciated as they can serve as lessons to the rest of us.

Sounds like a shitty Easter weekend. Hope both people heal well.

Can't be said enough, check out your rigging and other people around you as well. Especially when they look confused or cluster-f'd. That is the time I have saved a couple lives. I almost lost my life a couple times because I didn't do a simple check. Anyone can make this mistake. Don't think it can't happen to you. A friend of mine with over 20yrs of experience rapped off the end of his ropes - luckily he only broke his back. I even go as far as placing the first piece or draw and doing a bounce test to ensure everything is working properly and the belayer knows what to expect.

Triple check everything!

Man, there have been a lot of accidents lately. A guy that we know down here in Atalanta fell recently at Jamestown (leading trad) and broke his back and his neck. :(

In addition to that--my sister who lives in Nebraska went out into their pasture to take a picture of a new calf and was attacked by the momma steer who has huge horns and weighs 900 lbs. She just sent me pics of all the injuries

I think some people reacted to my post as if I feel that I am above having an accident or doing something dumb. On the contrary, I know that I need to guard against doing something dumb, thus I insist on going over gear and through the litany before each and every climb. It is a good idea. I actually thought that every body does. The litany allows you to focus more on climbing instead whether or not you should be climbing at all. Safety needs to interactive also, we all need to climb with our eyes open.
