isn't that why it is an all out best day? isn't your very best effort in any aspect of your life something that you can not repeat on a consistent basis? nolan ryan threw the most no hitters ever, but I bet they accounted for less than 1% of his overall starts...lucky, obsessive bastard that he was. guess he wasn't really an all star pitcher anyway...[/quote]

Since when does "no hitter" = "all star"?? And when did the great Mr. Ryan ever call himself a "no hitter pitcher". I'm pretty sure he'd never describe himself that way.

A 5.x rockclimber is someone who can consistently climb 5.x of any type... slab, steep, pockets, bouldery, endurance, hands, fingers, off-fingers, fists, offwidths, and the corresponding practice climbing grades.

Otherwise, you're a 5.x sport (or whatever) rockclimber. As far as I can tell, theres only one or two people even close to being 5.12 rockclimbers in the Red... A handful of 5.11 rockclimbers... And maybe 20 or so 5.10 rockclimbers.

can you even name one person who has even heard of all these?

what if a I only climb bolted slabs? Do I now insert "I am a 5.9 slab sport rockclimber"????

Yes. Everyone who has read this thread.

Yes, you do.

That, or you just call yourself a rockclimber and give up on categorizing it via numbers.

I don't think you can generalize anymore.

I agree that you should just call yourself a 'rock' climber (as opposed to mountain, ladder or social). Anything other than that warrants classification. And the only time anyone understands it is if you're talking to another climber, who more than likely is going to ask you to clarify anyway when you say you're a 5.xx climber since they aren't going to believe you in the first place.

And if you're talking to someone who isn't a climber, then you have to start with basic explanations of what rock climbing is (and isn't), and they're probably only listening after the first minute to be polite.
