AE calls those who don't agree with him "haters", yet the only truly hateful words I've seen in this thread have all been penned by AE himself. I think the quotes above get to the root of what this is all about. AE has a deep and abiding hatred of white Southerners. I don't know, maybe some Cracker kicked his ass and stole his girl.

when piggie made his statement about pro choice (sorry, could not quote just that part), i could not agree more; which, is why, i am both pro-choice and pro-death penalty (to a limited extent). personally, i have a real problem with the insanity plea... who in their right mind kills someone anyway? (other than self-defense?) i feel like almost everyone could plead temporary insanity when murdering someone. God forbid, if someone used this defense after killing someone i cared about, i would come out ready to kill them myself. that said, not all people who plead insanity are competent to stand trial. glad i do not have to make those decisions.

on the other topic of this thread, i do agree that lower-income, minority individuals are targeted as recruits for the military. i also feel that many politicians, both democrat and rebublican, are both pro-iraq war and hesitant to send their loved ones over seas. complete hypocracy. now, what should we do about it? maybe if climbers work together, we could make a difference.

Forgive my edit, but these were in the same sentence. The pathology in that spins your head, but that's the crux of the debate anymore isn't it?

They are separate debates though. Something could be resolved somewhere in the future if one argument could be dealt with at a time.

The south does have worse problems in the way justice is meted out. They do have a worse problem with racial bias playing a role in that. Alan's way over the top with his name calling, but it's the Suck Forum, and maybe he's been exposed more directly. He's just trying to pull in some opposition.
I'm old enough to remember and to have experienced segregation in the south, so to me it isn't that far removed from the surface. Not hard to imagine it's hiding beneath it now either.

On topic - Death penalty no. We have no way of preventing innocent people being put to death.

when you talk of more black people getting the death penalty, what are the statistics on murders? for example, are the murders of blacks usually committed by another black man? are there statistics on the number of blacks convicted of murder who get the death penalty versus the number of white people who commit murder who get the death penalty. thought I heard somewhere that most black men murdered were murdered by another black man. alan, if that is the case,how would that be an example of the white man keeping the black man down?

I am 100% for the death penalty when children, elderly, and handicapped are the victims....if there has been molestation or rape, I say fry their asses.

otherwise, empty the prisons of all the silly drug convicts, and put the murderers in for life.

How can you say belief is not good enough for a response as to why we should or should not abolish the death penalty. There are a whole bunch of people willing to strap explosives to they're bodies and sacrifice themselves over a belief. I believe thousands of Knights were killed for a belief. Granted, we vote our "beliefs", but most laws, precedents, and statutes, are what we believe to be right and just. After all, these laws are usually decided after much debate, based on perceptions that come from the "beliefs" of the lawmakers themselves. I'm not up to speed on how this works, but I "BELIEVE" this was not an easy thing to decide (death penalty) for anybody who was involved, unless it was those knuckle draggers you know......

Sweet, some responses to deal with. I'll start with LK Day who I thank for actually bothering to take up arguing, though it's mostly nitpicking and/or taken out of context and it's pretty much all personal attacks rather than arguments about the death penalty.

I have a deep and lasting hatred of the South in general, this is true and most of the reasons I hate it have to do with whites. The mindnumbing poverty, shit schools, and mosquitos are because of bigotted crackers... ok, not the mosquitos, but its policies of white politicians that keep things fucked up and backwards. FOR THE MOST PART. There's plenty of blame to go around but I lay most of it at the feet of white folks.

Anyone who says they lived in the South and didn't know any racists is either lying or commuted in and out of Atlanta. A true Southern white momma might've told you not to say "nigger" in public but she probably would disown you if you came home with a nice black girl (or boy). There's a large group of Southerners that still think the world would be better if there were separate bathrooms and drinking fountains, they're just less likely to lynch people over it.

Yep, nothing about the death penalty in this one. Let's see about the one before...
