I'm already there. I have no job security, no say in my health plan, etc. I can be fired anytime for any reason...or better said for no reason. They can take away all my benefits inluding paid days off(ie vacation and sick pay) and cut my salary in half and I can't do a thing about any of that. The ironic part is all I have to do to make this company squirm is inquire about bringing in a union, they would freak out. Of course as soon as they found out it was me they would fire me but it would be fun to make them squirm.

is that completely true? When I worked at Toyota, there was always talk of a union, but no one got fired. My team leader was a HUGE pro-union guy, very vocal, but had been there 12 years....I highly doubt they will fire you for inquiring...

but are you saying you'd prefer a union? with your list of grievances, sounds like you'd love a union steward.

you say you can't do a thing about it. sure you can. go work for someone else. why is the mentality in america so "victim" related? jobs aren't a lifetime guarantee anymore.

Thanks for proving my point. The union is there for other cases as well such as injuries at work (or exposures to deadly chemicals), sexual harrassment cases, hiring/promoting practices.

When US companies finish breaking the unions you will all be working for third world wages and 14 hour days.

there ya go..it is not the unions fault..it is YOUR fault.

Um, Pigsteak ... you worked at Toyota, yet you did it with this degree. You had this promise of something better, you have the education to take a job and leave it when it doesn't suit you.

Try being the guy who has nothing but his job to survive. He didn't have whatever is needed (money, discipline, good test scores) to go on to school. So, here his wife, three kids and probably a couple of banks rely on the best gig he could get in town and then it's stripped from him because that company could fare better in India or Mexico. I know many people who suffered this when two major factories in my hometown downsized (one as the result of 911). It affects every business because those people can no longer afford to pay for anything.

law in Ohio say you can be fired without reason.

I am talking very specifically about my company, if I were to try and bring in a union I am sure I would be fired....trust me.

No I would not prefer a union, a contract would be better for me.

Yep as soon as this dealer fires me there would be three more dealers waiting to hire me on the spot, I would just have to take a pay cut at first. Not a victim here at all, in fact I am very lucky, I make a shit load of money for someone without a college education. most people with a 4 year degree don't make as much as me..LOL look at how much time I have to mess around on the internet

Meadows at my job, workmens comp plus disability is there for in case I get hurt on the job. And lawyers(I know one personally now) are there to cover the rest. As far as I know, unions don't have any special way to help an employee out with the things you mentioned.

Good point Meadows yet unions are not the solution to this...
