According to Schaeferssenn's Unabrideged Etymology Companion, it's derived from the Latin: Sanctus Rodoenus, or St. Ouen, a seventh century monk, scholar, teacher to princes, and offspring of Gallo Roman parents.

It was thusly named because the FA party lived like monks: no sex, wierd clothes, not much to eat. So I'm told.
