We had a great meeting! I know that it takes up a lot of personal time but without everyon's input, we would not be where we are today as an organization, SO THANK YOU!!

We worked on the Strategic Plan, which we will go public with in order to capture more of the communities input. (Give me a day or two to get it ready)

Shannon reported on the status of the Forest Revision Management Plan. The Draft is almost ready and will be going public towards the end of April beginning of May. SO the important part is that once the document is made public, the public wil have 90 days to send in written comments. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT! Similiar to what we went through over a year ago which really had a significant impact on the FS, our numbers representing the climbing community! So the FS has offered the climbers the opportunity to hold a meeting that we are invited to. They will present to us information that will enable us to respond in an effective way to the Draft. We will be setting up the meeting(s) and locations and will post that information in the near future. Stay tuned!

John presented his current findings on the Murray(?) property. John has put a lot of effort into the initial grundge work trying to decipher the layout of the property prior to an official survey(which will cost around $15,000 to do! Any donors??) IN conjunction with learning more about the actual parcel of land, we also are thinking about the fundraising possibilities to make this a reality. SO feedback is key!! Any ideas?

I reported on my trip out to Salt Lake to participate in the OR winter show. On the whole I believe that it was a very positive experience for the RRGCC. I was able to not only meet with current sponsors but make a ton of new ones as well. Also I collected three possible grants that can help sustain the efforts of the RRGCC but we need an experience grant writer! Any takers??? We have a solid shot at each grant so this is an avenue that we certainly will be working on! We look forward to participating in the Summer Show as well. The RRGCC felt that the Red is an obvious national level destination that it is necessary to take our work to the national level of awareness and education.

We are gunning up for Derbyfest as well as Rocktoberfest. So it is imparitive that we start organizing the volunteer staff now so that we can start working on each festival. Also all ideas are welcome so please tell us what you want! Keeping the fingers crosses, Tommy Caldwell & Beth Rodden have agreed to be our invited guest for Rocktoberfest this year!!! They are really excited to come.

This was a quick summary so if you have any questions please feel free to contact anyone that was in attendance!

Wow! $15,000 is one hell of a survey fee! I can imagine that this is about as complicated as surveys get, but that's still an order of magnitude more than I would have guessed. Are we just talking about a survey team in the field, or does this include additional title and/or legal stuff? Was this the best of multiple bids? (or is there only one person crazy enough to touch some of this stuff?)

Can you tell us more about the property - does it have established crags? Is there a lot of potential for new stuff?

I know people who are interested in purchasing some land in the area of the Red - would some subdivision and sale be considered as a way to raise funds for this?

I believe that the $15,000 is a poll of averages. We looking at a piece of property that spans 600 to poss. 1,000 acres! That's for the full survey. The property does have established crags and there is cedrtainly more lines to be developed. We are still working on ideas and what is best for the land. We certainly are not ruling out options on how to go about the business of purchaseing. Of course we will try to keep it as "simple" as possible. At this stage we want to purchase as a whole & not break it up by individual sale. Donations will make the purchase possible. There is a lot of liabilty involved in this and we need to focus on what's down the road in the future for the climbing community.

I hope I answered your questions effectively. Let me know/

The meeting was excellent. I went in as a skeptic, but with the intent to learn. I am now extremely impressed with the scope of the work the coalition is doing as well as with their accomplishments to date - especially given the very small number of active volunteers and the daunting challenges.

Everyone, I strongly encourage you to come to the next meeting. Please. I am certain you will come away as I did: excited to figure out just where in the long list of action items I can have the most impact given my skills and available time.

I have to give mad props to the group of active volunteers, and especially to Shannon, Gretchen and Johnny who seem to me to be absolutely tireless in their efforts. THANK YOU!

Thanks Lynne! It was really awesome to see you there! The RRGCC actually has a lot of tireless volunteers that over the years have done excellent work on behalf of the entire community. Between trail projects and events, we are very fortunate to have such a collective group of people that are willing to put in some time and effort. But the more people that we have to pull from, the more we can accomplish! It obiviously has made a big impression on the FS over the years. Each year our "to do" list only gets bigger! We are definitely thinking smarter and building more steam. We have something very special and we see the need to protect it!

Really glad that you guys came on Friday! What time did you get home?

All I know is that we got home before the bars all closed and took advantage of that fact. :P

How about you? I was actually a little worried about you, woman!

Why? I was fine. Just a little tired. I got home at 1AM. It felt good to sleep in on Saturday! Wish I could have gone climbing. We will definitely go climbing this weekend if the weather holds! Damnit, we have got to get out there! All work & no play is making me grumpy!
