I usually like some support from the crew. When I don't need it I don't hear it.

As for beta, sometimes I dig it and sometime it just makes me pissy.
So, to me, a good belayer/spotter should just know what I'm thinking.

I can't vote on either of these options. I know it helps me when people yell "COME ON", "GET IT" when they know it's a tough move and I am almost there... and they know me well... but when somebody says "COME ON, BIG MOVE OUT RIGHT" during an easy section, it screws me up EVERY time!

I like encouragement more when bouldering, but not as much on routes. so I vote for avoiding crowds and crags where there might be a beta-spewer.

I absorb energy from other crews at the crag. I love it if I'm climbing next to some other people (esp. french canadians yellin' "alay") that are cheering their climber on. I don't feel any pressure because I know their all watching him, but I feed off of their energy! Love it!

Busty hates it when I or anyone else gives advice, encouragement, or is talking to her while she climbs. It doesn't bother me one way or the other as long as my belayer is paying attention to me and what they're doing.

I hate it when I see people belaying that are talking to other people and not paying one bit of attention to what's going on.

No laughing either.

Seriously though, I don't believe that anyone spraying beta or yelling would blow my send anymore than what I ate for breakfast. I just prefer serene encouragement over yelling.

when I started climbing, I climbed with Beta Bill. I just assumed yelling was part of the experience. You know, like a FREAKING FOOTBALL GAME!
My gawd that boy should have been a professional cheerleader!
