I'd hate to see this converstaion turn into a "beat up on Josh" fest.
I think the difference here is this guy's sketchy in the honesty and trust department. Being a complete freakin weirdo ain't a crime, especially when you know someone for who they are and could count on them to be up front and honest with you. When you have to worry about an apparently nice guy stealing yer stuff or not taking any sort of input that's a bit of a liability. If you have no regard for other people's concerns and cannot think of how your actions affect other people then you have to expect you're gonna get kicked off the island.

Sorry y'all, I was just having some fun and joking around... Ultra was right - it was bogus. Had that really happened I definitely would have been the one to blame and I also would have stopped the guy.

You see. I can Identify with this kid.. When I was younger. I would steal if it suited my fancy. Heck, there was a time when I stole and gave the stuff away! I had a seared conscience. I wouldn't listen to anyone either. I stubbornly pushed ahead in anger when things didn't go my way. It took a couple of serious run ins with the law before I realized (read:woke up) to what I was doing.
Regardless. This josh character is in an enviroment to grow up very quickly. He needs to first trust then be trusted. You guys can teach him that.

If you catch him stealing. Beat his ass. At this point in his life its probably the only thing he will listen to. After youo draw boundries about what is acceptable behavior then you will be able to work with him and he with you. He has to learn that there are fences around the playground.

good luck

After a summer with this kid around me everyday, I wouldn't climb with him, and from the sounds of it, I wouldn't climb with Ultra either. Ultra, put your money where your mouth is and take Josh climbing.

Right on dude. Me too and to the other stuff you said. I don't think I was ready to start waking up too much until I was around 25. I don't know what Josh's history is but I'm guessing being in the red and around climbers is a step up. He's actually probably grown a lot this summer. On average climbers are pretty damn good people.

haas, owww! dude. That hurt! You don't even know me yet you say the most hateful thing..

But dear haas, Rest assured that I would probably climb with you and I'd give you the best belay in your life and I wouldn't sketch you out ! I wouldn't steal from you and I wouldn't mack on your gurlfriend, either!

Danny, So if you can identify with this kid. Do you think a Proper thumpun would help him?

Probably could use someone he can trust and respect. Guess it depends on whose doing the thumpun. Either way change is slow and diffucult.
