The "free day" idea is good as long as you're only compensating quality and not quantity. If your normal daily intake is 1800 calories and your free day is 3000, well you get the idea.
I can't seem to find the study right now, but somebody in England did a wild study a year or two back. They took a bunch of overweight (?) kids and divided them into two groups. The test group replaced their pop with water and the control group changed nothing. The water kids lost an average of about 8 lbs.
Diet for Life = BORING!!!
Riddle me this Batman, when a beautiful unusually fit woman posts about how difficult it is for her to stay in peak condition, why do people post insinuating that she's unhappy with her weight or has gained weight? THe original post was about the difficulty in altering eating habits and resisting urges. Michelle is one of the thinest women I know.
Just a thought. As climbers I think we have a generally unhealthy fixation with weight. But at least we're physically fit!

I never really thought of it like that....I wasn't insinuating she should lose weight, by the looks of her wedding photos she looked perfectly healthy and normal...Just rambling about the topic......I would say I have become more fixated on weight since I started climbing because once my metabolism jumpstarted and I lost a significant amount in a short time, I went to climb one day and was like - WOW what a difference it makes not to be carrying that extra 20 pounds around. And for the first time I realized that being fit and healthy was a really attainable goal.
That and for the first time since I was a kid, I feel HEALTHY - I haven't felt this good in so long and really, that's the most important thing. Having energy and not feeling so bogged down by unhealthy habits. I can still eat strictly Ramen for a week or more on end and it just doesn't get my body down the same way it used to before I started climbing. I mean, come on, all our winter activities (back country skiiing, camping on mountain tops in the snow, snowshoeing) and so on, are fueled almost completely by Snickers bars...the ORIGINAL energy bar....can't beat that, I don't have to fight a sweet tooth urge AND I get the calories I need to continue on with the activity.

I don't think people are thinking Michelle la Belle is unhappy. That woman has more endorphins than Jane Fonda after a video shoot. Maybe it is more of the general weight lament?
I'll admit it, I wish I were about 1 inch smaller on the waist. The weight thing is tricky b/c of the fat/muscle trade off so I try not to get discouraged by the scale when it isn't showing numbers as I feel they should relate.
Listening to NPR, they talked about "simple ways to cut calories" by switching from Hagen-das to fro-yo and of course to buying smaller breakfast bowls and other dishes to encourage proper portion sizes. Restaurants kill me b/c of the portion sizes and then my guilt at adding another styrfome (sp..i know) container to the world but not wanting to waste food. That's why I'm making the following recommendation--eat more dinners out with Yasmeen. She'll split veggie-dishes like no other.
A new diet revolution is on the horizon, the Yasmeen-Diet.
Think it'll market for millions then go bust?

I know that you believe that you understood what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Before I was about 25 or so I used to over eat always. If there was free food I'd stuff myself till I was sick. I was always really tired from eating so much. On a whim I decided to quit eating "stimulating foods". I think I read something about that somewhere. So I didn't eat meat, or milk, or spicy stuff etc. I don't remember exactly what all I didn't eat but it was probably pretty much a vegan diet. I did that for around 3 years and was very strict, like I wouln't eat something if the ingredients had any eggs or anything I wasn't eating. I kept doing it because I felt so much better. Anyway, when I started eating other stuff again I never really had the same problem I had about over eating. I still crave sweets sometimes (especially if I start eating them regularly) but I hardly ever eat so much that I feel like crap. I also think just getting older I am not as crazy about food as I was.
I don't get it - Joe is (gasp) over 30 (I won't give away the exact number) and he eats like a teenager. ANYTHING and EVERYTHING...and in quantity...and aside from the little belly remark I made earlier...he is in really great shape...he eats 4 to 6 plates of prime rib (at the all you can eat $8.88 prime rib buffet...sun thru thurs...) at the one place here and he can eat his weight in crab legs and it just POOF metab - o - lizes like magic. At ten years his junior I have to fight a little to keep the metabolism going....is it just genetic? His twin brother is the complete opposite. Much heavier and has health problems. ????

Okay, I can't keep quiet another minute!
You are all beautiful and fit BAMFS!
It isn't easy to be fit.
Trust me! Obviously, I cave more than I crave!
And if you think it's hard now..............
Sincerely,

What I love about running is you can meditate while running. It's a peaceful place.
