I know they are not really fitting into this category but Rage Against the Machine had an awesome guitar solo in one of their songs. It's in the song "Guerilla Radio". You have to see it performed to really appreciate it. Their guitar player makes the guitar sound like a harmonic by using the feedback from the speaker. It's freakin sweet.

I always thought Mick Ronson (?) of David Bowie fame was pretty badass, Ziggy Stardust stuff was hot- plus he wasn't a guitar snob, just plugged and played-Frampton was a puff and remains a wimpy punter

Yes, Crankmas, Ronson did some outstanding stuff with Bowie.

Hey, he may have been a teen idol, but he's got some serious chops. Just listen to the 2nd disc f Frampton Comes Alive! 25th Anniversary (it's got a bunch of prev. unreleased tracks).

Also, your mom is a wimpy punter.

Maybe I am having another brain fart but didn't Frampton play with Humble Pie? If so, that is good enough for me.
That was an awesome band...does anyone remember their live Filmore album?
"Walk on Gilded Splinters" was awesome...!
