the top of Purple Valley is a parking lot somewhere in Frenchburg so I guess we just need to get that sorted out, I have some sources and will post the info if I can get it. Welcome to Purple Valley can be become an exit trade route.

If it's a standard sign I believe it's the "Road closed, foot traffic welcome" one so I'd say no on the motorcycles.

Great, now I'm wondering about horses...
Screw you guys. I'm going bowling.

Still open to bicycles. There is a gate, so whether or not it is passable is a moot point. Temporarily (indefinitely) closed.

Spoke with the USFS at the Stanton Office of the Cumberland Ranger District by phone today. Plans to reopen FS Road 9 to vehicles is scheduled to occur in 2006. Funding is now available for perhaps a late Summer or early Fall work completion.

it's only about a 10-15 minute bike ride up to pistol ridge with a full rack, plus the usual 10 minute hike. i did it a couple weeks ago on my mountain bike(for the roads), it was a good time all round. i just locked my bike to a tree, although, wiht the limited traffic it's probably barely necessary.
less than 30 min total to pistol ridge, and probably not much more to some others. give it a shot, it's a nice trip, and you'll probably have the crag to yourself.

I completely agree. There is no good reason for that road to be opened back up. THe area NEEDS a LONG rest.

As soon as the road opens back up all the lazy yayhoos will be back at it full throttle trashing the place. If you truly love visiting this area you've got to agree that the best thing for it is this gate.
