i've never done even a two hundred foot route. i want to, i had to say long and easy, cause that is what i want to do. maybe eventually2,900 ft. of 5.12 and offwidths. mmmmmm offwidth
have any of you really been that high before?? a couple hundred feet isnt much to brag about. you have to get in the thousands before you can say you have really been exposed.
Unfortunately, I have done two big routes shortly after someone has died on them. In one case a solid climber got blown off an easy climb with 70ft of rope out. The other was a slip in a chimney with a placement blowing. It doesn't settle well when you have to pass a makeshift cross at the base of a climb.
You know, like nunchuck skills, bowhunting skills, computer hacking skills... Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills.
This summer was the first time that i got up considerably hight on a route. We did the snake dike route on half dome and granted the climbing was casual, for the most part, it was rad. It's a totally different ball game than the short hard stuff. Awesome in it's own right, just different.
