Lola is good, but Layla is better. What about Roxanne? Or how about Meatloaf getting it on by the dashboard light? There are just too many, and these aren't even the cream of the crop.

A greatest song of all time simply cannot be named. And I'd probably have to go with a classical composition if forced to chose. Probably Bach. Unless I was in a pissed off mood, then it would be Jazz.

See the problem?

One of my all time favorites is "Lover Man" by Billie Holliday...of course I also adore her rendition of "Strange Fruit." It sends chills up your spine.

but isn't it obviously Tenacious D's "Tribute"?

I mean, not "Tribute" itself, but the song to which "Tribute" is itself a tribute? Right?

While there's a music thread going, did anyone pick up on the "Grey Tuesday" thing?

It's pretty interesting - some DJ called Danger Mouse did the difficult but obvious: He took the vocal tracks from Jay Z's Black Album and mixed them with the Beatles' White Album. The current owners of the rights to the Beatles' stuff (evidently not everyone's favorite "child advocate" anymore) wouldn't license the samples from the White Album, so a bunch of sites made mp3s of the album available last Tuesday.

I'm not a big fan of Top 40 Rap (e.g. Jay Z, Marshall "Whiney Little Bitch Princess I'm Bugged by a Rubber Puppet" Mathers, et al) but the result here has been worth a few listens on the ol' Pod.

Snagged it but I haven't gotten a chance to listen to Dj Danger Mouse's Grey yet. Looking forward to it though. I think it will be Saturday's 'drivin' to the crag' music.
