man, if you're really serious about kicking people off for not obeying the rules, you'd better change em. not one damn person obeys all of that garbage.

I've never read those rules. I'll change em' if they're gay.
I don't think people would vote to kick someone off just for disobeying the "rules".
I just can't think of a better way to handle the situation than letting the majority of the users decide. That way no single person feels responsible either.

The problem with kicking people off is that they can come right back. That and taking a vote doesn't help because how long ya gonna leave the polls open? If everyone doesn't have a chance to vote than the site ain't very dem-o-cratic.

Actually you can ban IP addresses. If they are dynamic, you can use wildcards (at the risk of banning others, too, though). I believe email domains can also be banned - so for instance all hotmail.com and other free accts - if it comes to that.
Speaking of which, Ray, you may want to enable email authentication and require unique email addresses. That makes it harder for people to troll. If the free accts become a problem later, ban those domains. This will require that new users use their real addresses, which they can then choose to keep private.
I think everyone is anticipating a whole lotta trouble but basing these concerns on the last days of ClimbKentucky.com. I don't think it'll ever get that bad. First of all, there are moderators on this site. Also, ever since Climb Kentucky has been down, most people realize what a valuable resource it was and won't want to risk tearing this site apart in the same way. I think this is all very premature and the rules should evolve as they become necessary. Instead of focusing on the negatives, let's give Ray some useful suggestions on what to do with this site!

Interesting thought. People didn't realize what a valuable thing climbky was until it was gone. The final days of climbky...sounds so apocalyptic. This is all very strange to me, I feel like I'm in some sort of post-American like country, that or sitting around watching the Constitution be drawn up.
I'm a soured cynic but when its all said and done I somehow doubt things will change, as much as I might want them to.
