Yea, gear is always getting mixed up and many people have the same type of gear so taping allows you to easily identify your gear.

dremel tool with one of the metal grinding attachments. permanent. for pussies worried about destryoing climbing gear, spray paint works great.

As a substitute for actually marking draws, i just have an 'eclectic' collection of various biners and slings - the hotwire with the anodized petzl straight-gate spirit on a metolius sling? Oh, yeah, that's mine!
But seriously, now that you have a nice, new matching set, I've had good results with finger nail polish. I use two different colors applied in a low-wear location on each biner. It does wear off after a while, but it's easy to reapply.

Tape is just too easy to remove.I like nail polish way better and it's plentifull with ladies in the house.
