Signs would probably work but we definitely have to spread it by word of mouth. No screwing with the oil rigs or access thereto.

sik the signs were everywhere. They were stuck on nice posts at the entrance to Marley, Drive-By, top of the hill going toward the backside of Oil Crack, at the top of the hill by Oil Crack....pretty much everywhere there are routes in that area. Don't know if Darkside and Solar were posted or not.
We can speculate 'till the cows come home but until we know the full story there isn't much we can do going back and forth about signage here. If anyone can confirm these 'rumors' that would help the situation. Also if you play 'illiterate hillbilly' make sure to park out of the way. One thing to remember in all this is that the oil company maintains and cut many of those roads that we use to get to the crags. Lets don't let the same roads that allow us easy access to good climbing ruin our access to good climbing.

The signs and the "parking areas"
(1) WTF TK. Where is the wilderness experience that you are lookig for, because you're not going to get it in the southern region. What a f'ing idiot. You're complaining about your "wilderness experience" and we're worried about access.Get with the program. You are a little behind.
(2)The so called "parking area's".Are an illusion or some sort of dementia that's taken over your hippy, bong-water infused brains. Those are not parking areas.
They are drill sites.
They are drilling new wells.
You folks are parking on them.

I agree that there needs to be direction and control of where climbers are permitted to park. Not only are there frequently cars parked in front of rigs, there are also cars congesting some of the roads unneccessarily.
So was there a sign at the Motherlode by any chance?

It doesnt help that your map says parking at an obvious drill site between the arena and oil crack. I suspect a blocked rig was the reason.

Sandy I didn't notice any signs up around the Lode. Around being the road down to the pull-offs where people park to go to the Lode. The Motherlode is owned by a different company (Morris and White I belive. I further belive they own the land and mineral rights) While I didn't walk to the Lode, there were no signs at the pull offs.
Remember that on many maps the main drag through what we refer to as the southern region is Bald Rock Fork Rd, a county road. It was the off shoots (side roads up to Marley, etc) that were signed.

Hey lawers - is it likely that the mineral rights that the oil company holds would give them the right to restrict access? Anyone can stick a 'no trespassing' sign on a tree, but would you guess that the oil rights could superceed the permission given by the 'land owner'?

I still think it is funny that people just ignored the no tresspassing signs. I mean, the signs surely didn't apply to them, and it isn't like there are hundreds of other routes in the rrg, or that until a couple years ago, the routes there didn't exist.

Up here in Chicago, there seems to be a lot of 'doesn't apply to me'. When you buy a SUV, it comes with a special license that makes you exempt from having to use your turn signals or stop at stop signs. It even exempts you from the laws of physics when you're doing 75 in a snowstorm at night. I mean, I've never seen the actual written exemption, but I feel pretty sure in inferring it from driver's behavior.
* As for ignoring signs in the southern region, I mean, like, doooood, like we totally own that shit down there, like, ya know? Like, they're lucky I wasn't there to be rippin' down those signs, yo! Like if some guy came up on a four wheeler and was takin' down my license number, like, yo! I'd be clockin' his shit with my #5 Camalot, yo! *
(for the dim, the *'s bracket sarcasm mode)
