okay. take "power". if you did a literature review to sort out this apparently simple word it would span hundreds of thousands of pages. same goes for fear. same goes for sex. same goes for truth. words, like everything else, are big and complicated. i don't know why people do things or why things are a particular way - i never claimed to - i'm just not willing to assign the 'nature' of everything to...um... nature.

just in case that wasn't clear, i'll put it in layman's terms:

things aren't simple just because you don't know shit about them. don't need a degree to understand that.

o.k. here it is simply. People are fearful, people are greedy, people are selfish, people are horny, people hate what they don't know or understand, people look at the world through the veil of their own inadaquecies. There are a few other things that I can't think of but I will say that for almost every action by an individual you can lay it at the feet of one of these "drivers." I don't know why you think its more complicated than that. Maybe that its that you don't understand why people do the things that they do? Are you afraid that people wouldn't think you were smart? Help out here...
