Pull ups
Re: Pull ups
How many of you 5.13ers can do a one arm pullup?
Re: Pull ups
interesting question, may be loaded to, when do you consider yourself a 5.13er, btw I don't think I will ever be able to do a one arm pull up or even a good solid front lever although I may not qualify for the question, I have always wondered if there is a difficulty threshold where if you can't do or nearly do a one arm pullup then your shot at ever climbing that grade is very low, I would guess that would be closer to 14a than 13a if it does exist, how many super strong women climbers can do one arms?

Re: Pull ups
I am willing to bet that a much better predictor of climbing ability would be how many pull ups you could do on a door frame...
Re: Pull ups
You may only consider yourself a 5.13 climber after you've worked a single route for more than 3 seasons while simulating each movement indoors and rehearsing the moves in the shower each night for 22 weeks. During the time of working the route you must ignore all other super fun routes which you could quickly bag and enjoy during a weekend while keeping your sites set on the glory and self confidence you will receive after sending that infamous 5.13 line. You must keep your eating down to the minimum amount as to not gain the additional pound which could possible keep you from sticking the "crux" move on the 5.13 line. The last requirement is to have a beta notebook containing each and every move of the 5.13 line so you don't forget it after trying it 125 times. Once you do finally send that 5.13 line, enjoy the pristine moment of quickly rushing to 8a.nu and redriverclimbing.com (do it from the cliff if you have internet access), searching for that 5.13 line, checking to make sure nobody called it "soft", and clicking the "submit" button with your mouse. Sit back and wait for the congratulatory Facebook comments from all of your "friends", my friend, because you are now a 5.13 climber.heavyc wrote:interesting question, may be loaded to, when do you consider yourself a 5.13er

Interesting....Can you hold a one or two pad edge one handed???
Re: Pull ups
I know a few people that can do one arm pull ups, and only climb 5.12-... I think one arm pullups can be done by many if you train for them (like a lot of things). Which would not be that hard if you owned a hangboard... but it would still just a circus trick to show off to your friends...
I don't have haters, I have fans in denial.

I can do a couple, but am not a 13 climber. The highest grade I think I can do consistently is upper 11/low grade 12. Everything else I have to work for.
Can't we all just get along?

and that is different from here how?????dustonian wrote:More likely, if you've already wasted enough time to climb "hard" then you don't have too many interests other than climbing, and WTF it's still snowing outside goddammit etc etc.climb2core wrote:I think it is more interesting that 57% of the responders climb 5.12 and up... Seems like a pre-requisite for climbing hard is joining a board like this and spending excessive time talking about climbing online.
This doesn't really hold true on other sites though... Supertopo, for instance, is composed primarily of older gay men with beer bellies who no longer rock climb.
Positive vibes brah...positive vibes.
