For current and future reference to anybody viewing this thread, Eagle Point Buttress is in the Clifty Wilderness Area. No groups over 10 people allowed:
DBNF Forest Plan wrote:Clifty Wilderness, 2.A-REC-8. Until the Limits of Acceptable Change process is completed, limit the size of groups to no more than 10 people. Groups over 10 may be allowed only under permit on a case-by-case basis when compatible with Wilderness management objectives.

captain static, so what about all these college kids who roll off the cliffs at night in a drunken stupor? Are those guys subject to LAC restrictions? I hear they have there own users group and are in parlayence with the NFS. I hear they're getting a tram put in so they don't have to hike to the buttress. Somebody was a state senators son......

Sure it is, as long as you have one person that can ether lead one of the routes, or has the skillz to hike around to the top, and set up some anchors. There are several very good face climbs, routes that would be 4-5 star moderate sport routes if they were bolted and a little closer to the road. There is a ledge to fall off of, but only if you are really dumb, as it is plenty big enough.

That's funny but at the same time not so funny. When the Forest Plan was being revised (pre-LAC) I researched the background on the creation of the Clifty Wilderness and learned about some of the politics involved. Interesting stuff.

But as far as alcohol in the Gorge, the Ju_dge Executives and other locals pushed for increased enforcement of existing rules during LAC. Their position was, "We don't need any more rules from LAC, we just need the existing rules to be enforced." This pressure, in part, resulted in vacant USFS law enforcement positions being filled. Since then several law enforcement operations have been carried out targeting illegal camping, drugs, and alcohol.

And thats why I don't go into the gorge proper. I get all my drinkin', drugin' and campin' done out in no mans land. No rules, no rulers. Just me, my partner and a wall. In fact....sometimes we don't even climb. We just park in the creek, piss off the tail gate. Drink beer and shoot the bottles while cooking meth with burning kittens!

How do you get the kittens hot enough? I add kitten after kitten after kitten, but can never get it hot enough?
Sure is a lot of fun while you're doing it...
