Gumby or not doens't have anything to do with how hard you can climb, but experience. There are guys out there who can't climb anything over 5.10 but have more experience than I or you will ever have on rock. It's about being able to handle yourself responsibly at the cliff and not having having seriously jumbled up opinions and information based on what people on this forum say for entertainment.

in fact, i think that he is just an eager, new climber that is trying to soak up everything he can, as fast as possible.
i think he is not afraid (and has plenty of time to kill) to type out everything little thing that crosses his mind about climbing...or anything else.
i think he is meeting such resistance from the rrc regs b/c we know that really, deep down inside of every one of us is a little bit of redpoint, but we're too chicken shit to admit it.

I'll have to respectfully disagree, Ahab. At no point, when I was eeking out 5.11's at the gym, was I under the delusion that Twinkie would go down. Or worse, talk about how I was going to get it on video and "shut everyone's mouth".

This dude is delusional. Whether he can send Twinkie or not, I couldn't care less. He probably can. Hell, I probably can't for that matter. But whether I could or couldn't, I wouldn't post it here, make a site for it, and stir up shit just to wind up looking like an idiot.

Actually, who knows, no press is bad press, maybe Redpoint will start a new video production house specializing in gumby's eeking out the send on shit that is way too hard for them.

I'm not a troll, and do fully believe I am still a gumby when compared to some people. It has nothing to do with how hard any of us climb.

None of us are as smart as we think we are.

I agree a lot. Like I said in my earlier post, a lot of redpoint's posts are at least familiar to me. I'm a low .11 climber outside and in the gym who has gotten on routes way above my head in twinkie, Ro, and some cool stuff in So Ill. I've been super excited about those routes(long moves on big holds while climbing up huge overhangs is just fun and inspiring, whether I havea chance to send or not). Even some of his more "lame" things like tree climbing and climbing crappy choss and roadcuts in louisville, I have been there or at least thought about. So yeah, he catches crap, is over-eager, and sometimes uninformed but so am I at times.

I bet meeting him in person probably changes a lot. The internet tends to exagerate everything. Hell, even crankmas is almost normal in person.

no way! the gumby twinkie experiment is one of the greatest things to happen to humanity. ever. i'd rather see this on the next climbing film than see some dude climbing in a land ill never visit, on a line i cant even comprehend. give me something tangible that i can relate to. twink on, redpoint. twink on.

It is nice to see videos of routes that are actually conceivable to the more average climber, instead of watching the world's top athletes working 5.15's. I think Redpoint would be a little less obnoxious if he wasn't fueled so much by this message board. Like him or hate him, we have all made the Redpoint.
