absolutly, the snake was badass, after it made its presence known, it just sat there, didn't budge even when we were trying to get it to rattle again for a photo-op it wasn't scared and never rattled. Beautiful snake, bit of an ego though

we got lost looking for muscle beach once and ran into something that looked alot like this guy.

walked right by him w/ 3 dogs and not a peep. the last one in our group saw him and screamed. i walked back to see what it was, couldn't see anything so i slowly stepped over a log and as soon as my foot hit the ground the air was filled with a static hiss similiar to that of a de-tuned tv. he was big (think the business end of a louisville slugger) and pretty intimidating, but beautiful.

Timbers are said to be one of the most cantankerous of all the rattlers - hence the ego. It's awesome to hear all the stories of people encountering them down at the red - sounds like they are making a comeback. Maybe all the sandal hikers out there will rethink their approach shoe choice. But don't use this as an excuse to be a gumby and poop/pee on the trail.

Egotistical snakes? That's redundant.

I have seen a lot of snakes in general this season. Most of them not poisonous but it seems like over the past 5 years I have seen more and more snakes at the red.

The last snake I saw at the crag was what Pigsteak called his "pet snake." I was not scared in the least.
