You guys don't get my point.

Let me try and put this in a context you may better understand. Pretend this girl that died was gay, and the performance a GLBF sponsored theatre event. If this thread appeared in that context and I went on here and hijacked it with gay jokes, and anti-gay remarks – I would justifiably be called out by many as a homophobe and/or bigot. If this analogy doesn’t work for you try a racial one.

I am not suggesting that Christianity is protected from criticism; some of it I agree is deserved. But this thread is about a tragic accident, and if you can’t see that hateful attacks are inappropriate in this particular context then I am wasting my time even responding.

And you say Christians are hypocritical and judgmental…sure a few are, but why are you so concerned about them? Just read through your own posts and deal with these issues yourself!

And back to the purpose of this thread – last I heard from someone involved in the investigation is that this was most likely caused by a locking carabiner, that wasn’t locked. Someone seemingly didn’t properly secure her in it because it was dark and whatnot. The biner likely snagged on clothing and opened. Relevant lesson we can learn is to always double-check you and your partner’s setup.

Churches have embraced production technologies in the past 20 years like few others have. Perhaps it is because the word of god is no longer as powerful as the moment that a lighting cue, a rock band, and a flying chick can provide. Our culture is hooked on entertainment and the christian faith has bought into it BIG TIME.

Since when does the word of god require a professional line array sound system, sophisticated lighting system, and a television broadcast?
It doesn't. But the word of god used to not even need books, priests read from scrolls and thats how it was given to the masses. Just because fancy new things called books came along, does that mean they should be discounted because god doesn't need books. No, new technology can help a worship experience and allow the word of God to reach more people. Don't get me wrong, worship is about God and about God only, and can be done, as you say, outside, by yourself, or while watching a production a lot of people who love the lord put their time into. Either way, it's all about God.

And I'm very sorry to hear about this accident, it must be a tragic time for all of the family and friends.

how dare you hijack this terrible accident with religious and anti-gay racial analogies! WWJD?!

wait. let me get this straight...

for the first time in your life you and your faith have been called out for hypocrisy and all of a sudden you claim to have faced the ridicule and shame of a pronounced minority? brotha please. is this your first time on the internet?

and will you cite the difficulties christians faced in past times as a statement of vindication? Why am I so concerned about "them"? Hypocrisy must be observed and called out in whatever arena it appears, less we become cultural sheep...

Somewhere the church became state. Our government is trying to legislate morality due to the influence of YOUR church. how fucked up is that?

This thread is now officially no longer about the senseless death of a young girl. I think it has become pretty close to you being called out for self-rightousness.

Illogical analogy. GLBT people don't spend their whole lives telling everyone around them they also have to be GLBT and follow certain rules from a book they themselves ignore 95% of else the people they are trying to convert will go to hell.

I'm not sure any of this warrants a response, as it will be met with counter arguments filled with emotional language and attacks that don't logically address the issues and statements of the people he claims to be calling out. But whatever, as stated, this is the internet.

as the famous charlie quiped years back..."arguing on the internet is like running in the special olympics....even if you win, you're still retarded."

people who loath religion have some serious hangups that they refuse to acknowledge. get over yourselves. you don't have it any more figured out than the church goers do, and their "hypocrisy", as you so fondly call it, is no more ignoble than your own inconsistencies in life. if folks could read your mind, you know they'd see volumes of inconsistencies.

let me give you a few I know you possess: view this website while at work, which in essence steals your employers money, act like you love your wife or girlfriend, but lust after anything with tits and beer, look disparagingly at anyone not holding your views (religious per se), but deem yourself a free thinker and proponent of equality, drive after a few too many beers, knowing you could kill someone.....get the idea? hypocrisy is a fact of life, and therefore also negates your accusations of religious people. it really is an internal issue you each need to deal with, and has very little to do with religious folks. for every so called evil you like to blame on religion, there are half a dozen good deeds that came out of the same institutions. quit being so blind to reality.

any issue that garners a strong response from someone (for OR against) only tells one thing: that issue has a clutch on you, deeper and stronger than you'll ever admit. when you can truly look at someone's ideas, no matter how different from your own, and not give a flying fart about that issue...only then have you mastered the art of detachment.

that is your sunday school lesson for today. deal with it.

Personally, I am offended by this thread. Someone loved that girl, she died, and you people make horrible comments about it in the attempt at humor. There's not an insignificant chance someone that knows her will read this thread.

I promise I won't call you total dipshits when you die, regardless of whether I believe it or not.

Very low class boys.
