again alan, i am sorry you have been so wounded by people of my faith that you must feel that way. i sincerely apologize that christians in your own family acted out in oposition of all they claimed to be. i am sorry for the crusades. i am sorry for george bush claiming the name of christian. i am sorry for those in this country who would have it be a theocrazy. i am sorry for dogmatic zealots who do nothing to serve others but only themselves. i am sorry for christians who claim to know all the answers and have stopped asking questions. i am sorry for my own failures. i am sorry for making you angry by the mention of the word jesus. i am sorry for all that. good grief we've hurt you deeply that you hate so much. i am sorry. i mean that as much as i can. i hope you can forgive. i understand if you can not. i hope you don't find some hidden agenda in this message to you. there is none.

Having read only the last few posts, lemme just say that I prefer to live and let live and wish more people would do the same. I respect people who are secure enough in their beliefs (whatever they may be) to not shove them down other people's throats or attack people who believe something else.

So... I heard the best Jesus joke at Miguel's this weekend. Is this the place for that?

I haven't been following it either because
1)I hate discussing religion or politics, and
2)I hate reading really long posts about religion or politics.
But I figure I'll throw this in

For consideration.

Abraham Lincoln: “I believe the Bible is the best gift God has ever given to man.. All the good from the Savior of the world is communicated to us through this book.”

W. E. Gladstone: “I have known ninety-five of the world’s great men in my time, and of these eighty-seven were followers of the Bible. The Bible is stamped with a Specialty of Origin, and an immeasurable distance separates it from all competitors.”

George Washington: “It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible.”

Napoleon: “The Bible is no mere book, but a Living Creature, with a power that conquers all that oppose it.”

Thomas Huxley: “The Bible has been the Magna Charta of the poor and oppressed. The human race is not in a position to dispense with it.”

U. S. Grant: “The Bible is the sheet-anchor of our liberties.”

Andrew Jackson: “That book, sir, is the rock on which our republic rests.”

Lord Tennyson: “ Bible reading is an education in itself.”

Sir Isaac Newton: “ There are more sure marks of authenticity in the Bible than in any profane history.”

Charles Dickens: “The New Testament is the very best book that ever was or ever will be known in the world.”

Immanuel Kant: “The existence of the Bible, as a book for the people, is the greatest benefit which the human race has ever experienced. Every attempt to belittle it is a crime against humanity.”

JB- I don't think that evolution and creationism are necessarily at odds with one another.

And Paul, one might argue that this thread has....EVOLVED! :x doh!

mgad, Why do you feel like my questions, seeker seeking understanding, is an attack such that you need to know "my beliefs" in order for my questions to be valid. Maybe you think I'm the devil?
I know that you believe that you understood what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.
