missed you at military yesterday anti. After we heard some guy deck over by sunshine, we run over to see what the deal was. I was really confused to see a guy laying on the ground 25 feet out from the wall completely on toprope. Apparently, this absolute jackhole on TR decided that, after he got to the top of sunshine, he would top it out. This of course being without any pro other than the anchors. I guess it was about 15 feet over the anchors where his foothold broke and he cam down. Don't know about belay fault but he did complain of a burned hand. Supposedly the rope caught him just before impact and probably saved his life. He eventually walked out and went to the hospital.
I am very thankful that he walked away and hope that he is ok. I was going to refrain from posting this incident right now, but the whole scenario is really kinda burning me up at this time. Accidents happen and they are tragic, we have enough community issues to deal with right now that this kind of behavior is not acceptable. The time to quietly watch or walk is no more. I only heard the aftermath and wished I had seen it sooner, maybe could have stopped it.

How you compare may not be as important as to whom you are compared
nuts. i'm just not sure how this happens. i was lucky enough to be introduced to climbing by learning the ropes from an experienced climber outside. my guess is this kind of approach to climbing is from an indoor introduction?
maybe mentoring becomes more popular, of commercial guiding and instruction...
