I would try juicing if you want to get the benefits of live enzymes without having to eat pounds of veggies in a day.... one of my favorite juices is celery, spinach, cilantro, grapefruit, carrot, and a bit of apple for flavor. also if you add a little piece of ginger it tastes super good. juicing requires some time for prep and clean-up but it is totally worth it. You get a mega concentrated glass of nutrients and enzymes. It might help you out. If you have a health food store in your neighborhood, check and see if they have a juice bar - just to see if you can stomach it. A lot of people shy away from juicing because of the immediate cleansing "Herxheimer" effect. I may or may not have spelled that right. I am almost finished with my rant, too, by the way, but a juice first thing in the am (after a glass of water) has an alkalinizing effect on the body, which is highly beneficial. Most people are way too acidic, and this can lead to premature aging..... inflammation and all that shit. So, good luck and keep up the good work! I for one am proud of you. Also, here is another thing that helps if you are still eating too much and want to curb it in a healthy way : Spirulina tablets will help a bunch. They are I think one of the most complete proteins in the plant kingdom and full of minerals and stuff. When I used to backpack we would take those since we were never getting enough to eat. They fill you up good....

While I was still in college I had the good fortune of meeting Dr. Christopher Hills, considered by many to be the "Father of Spirulina", and began working for him. Soon after I undertook a 14 day spirulina and juice cleanse. From this cleanse I experienced a radical change in my lifestyle and outlook in regards to food which is the thing I think you are seeking.
I continue to work with RBC Life Sciences which acquired Dr. Hills company in 1997. Since the merger, I have undertaken two, 21 day cleanse programs developed by an associate of mine in the company. These cleanses give your body a deserved break but are also a great exercise in will power since during the cleanse you must abstain from meat, dairy, wheat, caffeine, alcohol, tobacco, etc.
I salute you Atl for the progress you have made and your resolve to continue. After seeing several seemingly healthy acquaintances in their 40's suffer from cardiovascular problems I made a promise to myself to talk to people more about diet and health.

KD: You are correct in your assessment of how the body works. I do lift 5 days, BUT I exercise specific muscle groups each day and give that group 48 hours rest. I don't keep hammering away because I want development to take place.
dmw: I think juicing is a great idea and I have experimented with it, I even own a juicing machine, and it is an area I definitely plan to explore further.
captain static: I have heard of spirulina, but I have yet to really check it out. I agree. Too many people are getting fat and sick in our country today. It is a spiritual as well as physical sickness. I don't mind being a 43 year old man, but being 60 when I am 43 is for the birds. After so many years I now feel like I am starting to realize some small fraction of my potential.

When I am 60 I'll be more than happy to be that age. There is nothing wrong with 60, but 43 is not yet 60.

Results: I found that maintaining 100 % raw food for 2 days was freaking hard. I overspent my calories each day, but remained painfully hungry. I am now trying to incorporate many raw foods into my diet of cooked food. I think 50% raw may be a healthy mixture.
