I have never been to any rainforest nor the arctic or antarctic but the loss of them is more dire (globally) than any chunk of land I have been to.

What other weapons do the people have? We are at a point in this country where the powerful as so wealthy the people have no chance of having their voice heard over the millions of dollars of noise the coal interests can buy.

Are you going to protest when they start strip mining in the RRG? Are you content to let them keep destroying our mountains as long as they leave your little piece untouched?

sensationalism as usual from alan evil.....UK professor is in charge of the logging, and UK protestors are also in house....seems like they have it under control.

alan, until you don't use wood in your vocation to build things, go back in your hole....hypocrisy at its finest.

yeah charlie!! for shedding truth to the masses that rely on rumor mills! no mining, real research. we saved the BEAUTIFUL forest from the mining several years ago. seems sometimes you have to give a little to take a bunch. this is how i feel about the current effort. besides, research by professionals is a VERY different situation than the mining efforts of the past which were fueled by $ and trustees rather than forestry profs. and conservation minded graduate students.
