I really don't see the "American Triangle" thing as something to worry about when rapping or lowering. If you are lowering, you don't have a triangle in the firstplace, thus the load isn't increased by both a downward and inward force at the same time. If you rap, the ropes are going to be nearly parallel making the "triangle" so elongated, there would be very minimal forces inward. And we are talking body weight with 2 bolted anchors that each hold a few thousand pounds.
Let me know when you see this actually occur in the field.

I don't know if this was an actual story or a hypothesis but i remember something about a person linking two pitches together and at the first anchor they clipped both bolts for some reason and then the next bolt was fairly far out from the belay, something like five or so meters. The climber then took a fall while clipping the next bolt out. they fall then caused one of the bolts at the anchor to blow, or i guess more of a shear, while the other bolt held.

Jeez....
I'd feel pretty damn safe lowering from just one of those bolts. It has to be a thousand times stronger than most of the trees I rap from.
