in my jaded and cynical opinion, calling jerry falwell a "man of god" would be the equivalent of calling some drunken redneck rappeller who dies falling off halfmoon a "climber"

just to be clear...Jerry Falwell and Rich Mullins should not be compared in the same sentence.

Falwell is an ignorant bigoted fool. Mullins was a brilliant musican/singer song writer.

We should sometimes be careful of disliking the "man behind the message". I'm sure Dana, that there were some arrogant, opinionated people from Liberty that looked down on you and your friends for reasons unfounded and untrue. As a Christian I would like to apologize for attitudes like these that alienate people.

The sad thing about people who follow a certain man and his or her idealogy is that sometimes those who follow them take the beliefs they have gleaned from the one they follow to the extreme.

I've heard that Falwell is rather generous and offers full scholarships to many individuals who might otherwise not be able to attend college. And, I have met several people from Liberty who are nice, gentle, and friendly. Of course there are always people that are arrogant, mean, and spiteful and that's unfortunate. They miss the point entirely.

There are many people who seem to be ignorant, bigotted, etc... And some are as they seem. But we deal in perception, not reality because we are blinded by many factors. If we got to know the individual on a one-on-one basis, we would find that they aren't as they seem. John Calvin was a very quiet, studious, shy individual, but he is mis-characterized as being mean, etc...

i once took a pooh in a restroom at Dulles right next to reverend Falwell. His stall was out of paper and i loaned him the spare roll from mine - he seemed okay - you know for a poop neighbor and all.

Awesome story, KD. That might just have bought you finer accomodations with the man upstairs.

Would I be too bold to assume that the smell of roses emanated from the stall next door?
