I have a security system.....and a big dog.....and a big gun! I live in Redneck City and I know what we.....uh....they are capable of!

My alarm is very loud, and everyone notices. My ex son-in-law forgot my code (now I'm glad he did) and set mine off one day. It took a lot of talking to keep the cops from hauling him in. I go through a local company and they are on top of things.

I was just thinking about this the other day. I have a baseball bat in the closet, but awhile back I was on a rock climbing trip and came home to find my wife had hidden one of my straight razors under the mattress "just-in-case". I am still cringing to think how the hypothetical might have played out. It would be nice to have a more sensible alternative. In the end, I think a dog is the best idea going.

Banjo bites and the people around here know it well. When the woman and I are gone he's in the house so when he's gone as well they won't know he's not waiting inside.

He's also clearing the area of possums, squirrels and rats. Good dog.

From your statement I'll assume you were not home, no one was hurt and your personal property means little or nothing to you. Personal property aside, personal injury the issue, can you honestly still give Yasmeen the same advice knowing these are possibilities??? I have the basic ADT system, I could not live with myself, if while I'm away climbing or whatever, someone was to invade my home and attack my wife. So Pigsteak, If having an alarm to help out, when I have to sleep,(god forbid) or leave town, is paranoid, then the next time you climb, don't back anything up, especially those old worn runners or rusted pitons. I'm glad you guys live in a great neighborhood where you go to bed at night to the sounds of koom-bi-yah, but I think Yasmeen and alot of us have to have a little more sense/caution when addressing this issue. Yasmeen, your a climber, how many times did you carry extra gear, that you were glad you had when needed??? how many times did it feel good knowing it was there, even if you did'nt. I'll finish with an old Army saying "Better your back sore form carrying too much ammo, than your death from not carrying enough" Good luck!!! A close friend of mine's parents home was broken into. They were avid hunters and had guns in the home. They heard someone rummaging around downstairs and the father got a shotgun ready. He waited until he heard the intruder come up the stairs and try to open their bedroom door. He chambered a shell. The intruder ran back down the hall, bounded down the stairs and then the father heard a loud bang. The idiot burglar hit took the stairs several at a time, hit the landing at the bottom of the steps, here, there was a little throw rug. It slipped and he went down, knocked himself out cold. BUSTED!!!!!!!
