I had bad beta, and must admit i got a little too excited watching him pull the crux moves during the AUTOROUTE video (especially during that insane lockoff). I formally apologize for bringing down the integrity of the forum and deserve the backlash it inspired. My new first pick is a three way tie between Sharma, Caldwell, and Graham, best female sport and overall go to Rodden and Hill (respectively). What would you do for a klondike bar?

Having authored an unrepeated route simply means that you've authored a route not worth repeating.

Here are a couple of recent discussions on the subject from Planet Fear (http://www.planetfear.com/article_detail.asp?a_id=165) and 8a.nu (http://www.8a.nu/eng/articles/grahamm.shtml). But I would submit that when putting the two together, best and known climber, this title would have to undisputably go to Reinhold Messner (http://www.jerberyd.com/climbing/climbers/messner/).

You all are so closed minded an unable to think outside your little playgrounds. best known climber? That is easy: Tom Cruise, though Sly might be runner up? Or maybe Clint Eastwood?

The one having the most fun is the one not trying hard enough.

Trying till its painful is only fun afterward.

Not "best known".

Best. (known)

Meaning: Best all around climber whom we actually hear about, assuming there are probably extra strong all arounders living in anonymity.
