After reading this thread I think I'm going to tear down the wall and campus board so I can put up a bunch of one arm pullup training handles. Then I can go to the Red and do one arm pull-ups on trees.

I think of the red as my campusing board, and I believe pigsteak does his one arm chins with his hand around his ankles.

The best way to get better at climbing is to climb.

I knew a guy at the gym in Atlanta who could barely climb 5.11 but at the end of a 2-3 hr. work out at the gym could do two sets of 20 pull-ups back to back...figure that one out :?:
Lest we all forget... climbing is a mostly meaningless pursuit that we do for fun.

Be careful on those rafters in the front of Miguel's! A friend of mine (ha ha, this was so funny) was doing one-arm pull-ups and wanged his forehead directly into the rafter and and got a flesh wound. Ahhh, I almost died laughing! Wish I were that strong...

I'm Curious! Does everyone here believe that the world revolve around the ability to pull a 5.11 and everything else is a moot point. This thread was initiated as a discussion about one armed chins as part of a climbing work out, not the end all to be all. I assume you all do something other than hang off Miguel's rafters to train for climbing, i also asume you all do more than train on jugs and crimpers in a synthetic gym to train for climbing. Then again I assume that people on this board may actually have additional interests to climbing.

Isn't the better climber the well trained athlete who is well rounded, versatile individual, one who is multi-talented? Some of us are not interested in being on the next cover of climber, we actually have interests outside of climbing as well. Truthfully, 3-4 days into a summit attempt on any technical mountain and I'd want to puke if all they could discuss was their ability to pull a 5.11 or how they flashed a route, or what new holds were on the campus board at home.

People who have interests outside of climbing are just compensating for sucking at climbing. Nice try, OB Juan. Come back when you've condensed your horizons a bit.

Truthfully, midway through a hard flash and I'd want to puke if all I could hear was some fat dude on the ground talking about how he walked up a fucking mountain or what kind of new space suit he bought to keep his fat from freezing in the cold or what kind of new lightweight oxygen tank he bought so he could still breath where he wasn't supposed to be able to.

OB Juan,
We don't have any other interests. Why do you think we post on this bbs? For me, posting here IS my climbing experience. Sad and myopic, yes, diverse, no.
And, for the record, in all seriousness, while I have climbed a few routes that might be considered moderately difficult (on a pedestrian scale), I will feel myself fulfilled as a rockclimber when I can knock out a few one arm pull ups.
back to geeking out on one arm pull ups.
