Everyone is thinking it, but no one is saying it: In a lot of ways, work sucks more than school, so live it up while you can!

But seriously - part of what is involved in stories like Sprag's and Meadows' is that school takes a fair amount of courage. I know becuase I probably chickened out on some things during school, and didn't do as well as I could have. Once you're out of school and working for someone else, you can blame your idiot boss for most things, but when you're in school, you are really in charge of yourself. It's scary, espcially when you have to deal with idiot bureaucracies like financial aid. It may seem silly to think of yourself as 'brave' for waiting in line to fill out some form or for picking a major, especially comapred to climbing, but those choices take some balls. I'll skip the "go for it, dude!" coach-speak, but I'll bet you'll have reason to be pretty proud of yourself when you've finished.

I flunked/dropped out of college after 3 semesters. I bummed around being a mooch, general louse, and asshole for 6 or 7 years, went back, and fnally graduated. It sucked to go back. I hated the idea of 'general education' classes, It was hard. I had to take out loans. But I wanted to do it. I turned 30 the month before I got my degree. It took me 12 years to get through it. I have no regrets, but I will say it's easier if you have a positive attitude about it. I thought of it as a challenge, found something to study that I am passionate about, and worked hard to learn, even in the general ed classes. It turns out that taking an intro level anthropology class, ethics class, and history classes has helped me be a bit more well rounded... and able to have better conversations with a wider audience than just climbers who can only talk about climbing.

Things are better now... I am very fortunate... and considering applying for grad school next year.

So my job may be up for grabs soon. Who will get it? somebody with a degree, probably a masters, lots of good experience, and somebody who can relate to a wide spectrum of personalities.

Make the most of it... like meadows said, it 's a challenge... treat it like you would a climbing challenge.

I would have to disagree on that. Being a nurse is a hundred times easier that the college where I went to nursing school. In school, we all had to eat, sleep and breathe school 24/7 in order to succeed. I saw a lot of people work their asses off really hard, smart people that did not pass. Now that I'm out, I go to work and when I home, I don't have to think about it anymore. I can leave it at work, not take it with me. Although, going to such a tough school I believe did prepare me to do my job well, making it less difficult in the beginning for me than it was for people who did not have that kind of preparation.

Law school was a lot more fun than being a lawyer. I'd rather be a professional student - with a big checking account of course.
I'm an experienced woman; I've been around... well, alright, I might not've been around, but I've been... nearby.

There now, it's settled! :P
What I love about running is you can meditate while running. It's a peaceful place.

Maybe. Maybe not. It can just depend on what you want to do. I only made it through two semesters, but back in the day, they didn't even offer the stuff I wanted to do. I know plenty of people who didn't go / dropped out / etc that are doing just fine. I also know plenty of people that went, got the paper, and are not doings so well. A degree can open some doors, and it is a requierment for some lines of work, but it also doesn't assure you of a good job / career.
