as we all know there are those who climb to live, others live to climb, and most could take it or leave it from one outing to the next. follow your own plan man.....
( a REAL climber would never be caught dead living in florida

Gaar,
You've got to be kidding! Go for it. Sounds like a sweet opportunity.
Good luck!

I'd do it. Like Sandy said, a year is such a short time.... I mean, we're already 6 days into February for crying out loud! Didn't the year just start?
Climbing will be so much sweeter when you get back into it in a year. Save up the money and plan a BIG climbing trip to celebrate. There are plenty of ways to keep in shape in the meantime.
Bring a hangboard with you.

There is some nice stuff underwater, too. The water clarity is often spectacular at Grand Cayman, up to 150 feet. Hammerhead Hole is beautiful. No Name Wall is deep and mysterious. Stingray City is great fun.

I would do it. It sounds like an awesome opportunity, something that most people will never experience. And there's nothing wrong with taking a year from climbing. You'll come back with a different perspective and may be climbing better than ever with a new appreciation for it.

Basiclly I would be taking college student to remote islands, camping for 7 days and bring them back! and day trips here and there
I have untill Feb 10th to make a decision! If yes I will leave March 2

You actually have to think twice???? I love climbing, not as much as some, but enough to sacrifice my time, money, and health, but I would be leaving tommorow at the sound of this adventure.

Why not it's only a year, and I am sure they give you vacation time in there somewhere. So just vacation to a crag from the keys>> Seems okay to me. Although not climbing blows hard, it will make you an expert in activities like spear fishing, paddling, airbrushing trashy girls boobs, and spotting gay retirees in their native environment!
Plus if you do get a vacation in there you can get really cheap tickets to brazil and s. america from miami, which could lead to hot tan chicks and S. American Cragging!!! SICK!!!
Good luck chief that is a hard decision!

I hope you've already sent in the acceptance letter.
Climbing's great and all but when you put all your eggs in one basket life gets a bit too risky. If something happened to you tomorrow where you could never climb again would you adapt or would it destroy you? This sounds like an excellent time to diversify, or at a minimum give you some perspective on why climbing means that much to you. You'll get weak, but in the end you'll probably get so much more out of life knowing that you're not limiting your focus.
Aside from that the ocean's pretty damned cool.

I would'nt do it but you should-I would think a year in the Keys would go by fast plus you could be like stud muffin to all the disillusioned bats streaming down from Miami on the weekend
