You can also tape the thing in place so it doesn't ride up and down the biner. I split athletic tape in half and put 6 or so wraps around the biner on both sides of the device. It won't guarantee against a cross load but will help significantly. It's always loaded my biner properly during a fall. It's a pain to tape and retape if on multipitch though.

Steel biner is the way to go, but you should prevent the possibility of the biner being crossloaded no matter what. And tape sucks because you can't take the Gri-gri off without untaping and then you have to retape.

Anyone have a silent partner they want to get rid of? I would buy or trade.

Looks like a good biner to reduce cross loading. Anyone have one that they can talk up?

I saw that biner when it came out and have always intended to get one. It seems it would still allow some play in the device. But it would probably be really good.

Maybe that biner and an infamous "castration band" on the belay loop would remove most of the cross loading possibilities.

I have one of these, I use it to rappell, amongst other things, well worth the loot.
Actually it was the first piece of equipment I ever bought, got it at Miguels, it was the safest looking biner he had Best $20.00 bucks I ever spent.

what about plastic wireties instead of tape, just a thought although second thought tells me they might ride down the biners spine under load easier than tape, maybe Pam Anderson could belay you

castration band and tape would suck. to pass knots in the system (ie tying ropes together for more length when soling) and to switch from leading to rapping with the device. steel biner and grigri is dope. go solo something... http://mpages.org/climbing/places/thor/thor.jpg

To properly rig the cords (which are 5mm bungee) you need to pull them tight through the cord zips after snugging it against the biner to make sure there is enough tension to prevent the Gri-gri from sliding the cords around. Also tuck the loose ends back under the Gri-gri through the biner to prevent them from becoming tangled in the rope. I've used this setup from the beginning (almost 10 year now) and have nevr had a problem with the biner becoming cross loaded.
