Oh, I thought shuts were those anchors that are near circular anchors (part is left open) without any chains. Guess not.

Most people call open shuts drop-ins, but there are none of those (that I have seen) at the red. Fixe has a "drop-in" as well that is kinda like a wire gate biner.

Sandrock had quite a few well grooved open shuts the last time I was there. I don't think I've seen any open shuts at the Red either (at least I've never seen any without gates on them). New River has quite a few cold shuts.

Toproping through the links is a good way to make 'em nice and shiny. Nothing is worse than having ol' dirty, stained links for out-of-towners to have to look at - it makes people think we're bad housekeepers.

Instead of a star rating maybe we should consider a worn link rating: a rusty link = no stars, a shiny link one star, halfway through = two or three. etc.
