We need a Common Sense Rule #5. So...

Common Sense Rule #5: If there is already a thread on the topic about which you are going to post, add to that thread instead of starting a new one. It keeps the forum clean and organized. If too many threads are started about a topic, people have to look around to find the information they're looking for, where they should really only have to open one thread on a topic to get their answer.

I could get specific, because there have been 4 posters recently who have been starting multiple threads about their respective topics, but I'll refrain for now. I think all of the posters were well-intentioned, but it's very annoying nonetheless to open a forum and see six threads with similar titles all started by the same person. Multiple postings won't get more answers - they will just serve to annoy members of this board who know better.

Like 'Common Sense' at the crag, how do you get the word out? Unfortunatley, life experience has shown has that few people are born with, or even acquire it over time (common sense that is).

Idea.

Seems the duplicated threads are usually posted by those new to the forum. If you must be registered to post, why not send the common sense list as an email which must be replied to before activating a new registration. It may be like a software license agreement where it is simply agreed to and never read, but perhaps if it is simple enough a few will be enlightened.

they should even have an accept button on the bottem of the message just like software licenses to make sure you read them. sarcasim aside that is a good idea.

Anytime.

A SIDE NOTE.
So will this help me eliminate my Gumby status? Not sure how that works...time, posts, who you know? Curious.

If I had control over the ranks, I'd give you a new status related to all the good ideas you have. Otherwise, the normal progression is that your rank changes at 200 and 700 posts, I think. I believe Ray is going to start including a note about the common sense guidelines in the welcome aboard email. Hopefully this'll help a little, otherwise I'll start a thread in every forum about it. ;)
