dear gawd..the "I hate climbers who spray" club is huge at the Red....boulderers are chicken of a rope and gear, so they hate traddies who go on endlessly about the "view" (um, this is the Red, and Ky has no "views") and perfect finger cracks. traddies are loath to push themselves and fail, so they hate sporties (who aren't really outdoors people, but weekenders who hate their 9-5 life and are escaping, and couldn't self rescue if ever needed). 5.10 sporties and topropers are scared of the sharp end, so they bad mouth those who train. (which is covering up a lack of social skills and inadequacies in other areas) 5.12 climbers are pissed at the teen agers who flash 5.13, so they decide its all genetic, and they should have "fun brah" indstead of chasing numbers (just wait until they hit adult weight). number chasers are hated by all, so hence we have the anti-spray sprayers....
but it's much easier to hate what others do. it justifies our own choices.
(down with leashless ice climbers!)

urban climber is a pretty gay mag. i tried to read it a few times, but i could not get past the worthless shit they tried to feed me. even the name is gay. what kind of climber wants to be an "urban climber". climbing is about getting out of the city and urban life.

yeah, uc is way too up-beat/happy. it's like force-feeding a daisy to you. but i don't think there is anything happy about the name urban climber. isn't it a bit of an oxymoron? sheesh!
*please note SARCASM...it seems to be lost on some people*

A lot of these people are from kentucky or the south, so fifth grade is about right.

ynp1 - when did you learn to read?
The positives I have seen in the very few issues I have read were that it did spotlight some up and coming climbers, not the same old stuff, which other people have already mentioned on here. But what was kind of cool was I saw a guy in there that I had just shared a camp area with and didn't even know he was, well anybody. He wasn't a "sprayer" obviously....
Anyway - I was dead set against the mag - but you gotta remember, every publication has its audience. And some of their photography has been good.

I think Urban Climber is a pretty cool magazine. Hell, any magazine about climbing is cool.
