Ray-- is there a way to hide a person's spray list from others, so it's just a personal list, not a public "I'm better than you becuase I climbed x number of 5.y routes" list?
I might actually make use of it then instead of writing everything in my guide book.

dhoyne, if you are secure in your own climbing, then that will not change regardless of if you fill out a public or privite list. And as for the "I'm better then you.." part, I would say that a person who has ticked more higher grade routes then me is, gasp, a better climber. Why is it wrong for someone to be a better climber?
Tick lists are not good or bad, they are just a record. If you have issues with your climbing, ticking or not ticking is not going to fix them.

I think the 'I'm better than you..." is a perception that comes from feeling inferior. How many climbers do I know that actually believe that they a better because they can climb hard? Maybe 2 or 3, that's it.

You are correct - my problem - simply with me is focusing on the list - the past and not the present. I'll probably put a list up again one day - but i jus' want to try this for my head. I might be totally wrong about this but i'm jus checkin' my motivation out is all. It's cool that people have tick lists - there's nothing wrong with tick lists or those who use and enjoy them.

I like to finish so I can get on another really cool route.

P.S. I like having a printable version of my ticklist so I don't have to ask VA to loan me the guidebook that I sold her.
I may not be a better climber, but I'm proud that I currently have 69 sends in the Red. LOL

good motivation - do you enjoy repeating routes after you send them - ya know - jus for the sake of the climb?

I like the tick lists and use mine for several purposes. I can look at mine and see the routes I've toproped and recognize that most of them were during a time when I was going through some major head issues. Now I just want to go back and repeat them so as to test my current state of mind and expand my comfort zone. I also like to use it to see gaps in grades so I can goal towards filling those gaps and having a stronger base.
Essentially it's just data and can be used however you want. Better to have it then to not. That's what I think, at least.
