I appreciate all the comments and advice......even the negative things. We are going to hopefully make a circle starting with Athens then to the islands for sea kayaking and climbing, then turkey for tea and bazaars, then back around to Olympos and Meteora, and finally to athens again. I am really stoked! So hopefully everything goes well, but if not ... well that's why it is an adventure!
so please keep makin' comments and giving advice, every little bit helps!

Since you are going to Turkey...
If you ever wanted a Persian rug that is the place to get a real one and at a good price. Get it shipped back to your place in the US so you don't have to pack it around.

get yourself a ticket or figure out a way to cram yourself into a backpack and withstand 3days of straight up traveling to get there; and your in!! I am getting excited, I am about to freak out at work cause they are working me 6 days a week and I am in school, which means I have no time for climbing, but this is keeping me sane! Thanks for the websites!

I just got back from 6 weeks climbing in europe. I spent a month of that in Kalymnos and highly recommend it. It's pretty cheap to stay there, the combo of the beach and crags is nice, and the climbing is excellent at most grades. Lots of good routes from 5a (5.7) up to 7c (12d), above that the routes get somewhat fewer although there are some excellent 8a's. The style is mostlly slab clinbing (sgs: sharp grey slab) at the lowest grades but once you get to 6a+ or so (mid 5.10) the overall character of the routes switches to tufas and some pockets. There are some amazingly steep and long routes in the 7b+ - 7c+ (12c-13a) that climb stalagtites and tufas for 30-40m so a 70m (or longer) ropes is quite handy.

Kalymnos was absolutely fucking sick!!! I haven't posted any pictures yet because I don't know how (I think I need a website or something?). We spent 2 of the 3 weeks we had on the island and it was uber good!! (Brent) did you stay in Massouri? And what was your favorite crag?
As for Mantra, You are a complete dumbass! Every Greek there was friendly and super hospitable; all the signs had English subtitles; and I didn't get hit by a truck while riding my scooter! SO Yamishu Pusti!!! That's right! I think you are just jealous because you can't figure out how to get over there with out your mother paying for it!
Anyhoo, Brent, post some photos and I will attempt to do the same.

I know you probably said something bad, but that is a cool looking language, kalimera and oompa are my only words in Greek. I spent some time on Crete
firing missles at a Greek, drunk on Ouzo, in a small Cessna 172 with a drone tailing behind him about 150 feet. We never hit him though, the drone was not so lucky. When I was there in 90 we were warned heavily not to travel alone, carry more money than we could stand to lose and dont' go off the main roads(sound familiar) and we were young, highly trained,armed at times, US Soldiers. We were going down a street one time and in an alleyway there was a vw bus(charlie) about 15 feet down the alley selling watches and trinkets. We went down there (4 of us) and started looking at the stuff, the guy was acting kinda of nervous. My freind noticed a curtain moving in the bus and saw a guy with a pillow case over his head looking out behind the curtain. We all took off and as we were clearing the alley I looked back and there were three men with knives closing up the van and yelling at us........ So go on over to a country that you've been warned about by a local and take your chances. This was 15 years ago and at that time we were not at war yet and the world still overall liked the U.S., now most of the world despises us and travelin to alot of places is just not smart. I'm not taking Mantra's side and I certainly don't want to rain on your parade, but the facts are what they are, use them how you want..........my 2cents
