High country of NC is best bet for the SE. Vedauwoo and the rest of Merrick's list are great for roadtrips.
The red isn't so bad, just wear the bug gaurd stuff, and stay on easier routes to keep in shape. But, people still send hard, so don't let it be to much of a crutch.

It's never to hot to climb. You might cook on some of the exposed stuff, but there is always shaded rock. Lots of the crags are east/west facing so are pretty reasonable.

But have you ever climbed and really started sweating (after putting on bug spray) and then accidentally wiped close to your eye?

stix was explaining me the secret of climbing hard in red in the summer. chalk thickly up to your elbows. that way you have some time before the sweat that is coursing down your body reaches your hands.

Uhh, no kidding. I don't think I've used much bug spray since I moved down to Indiana. If you can't handle the bugs here, you won't like it up north (until mid-August when most of them die out).
Of course, in Canada, there are far fewer ticks and no chiggers. I hate chiggers!

I know a couple people who have a chemical makeup that REALLY attracts bugs. I find if I take them with me, the bugs leave me alone.
